Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty Nose Job)

A nose surgery, also known as Nose Job or Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure by which the size and the shape of the nose can be changed. Corrections vary from simple procedure to the tip of the nose or nostrils to complicated operations to the bridge of the nose or the whole nose.

Nose Job Procedure

During most nose surgeries, bone tissue and cartilage are given a different shape or removed. Incisions are often made on the inside of the nose. No scars are visible after procedure. In some cases, an incision will have to be made in the partition of the nose. A small scar can then remain visible.

When the nostrils are made smaller, pieces of skin tissue are removed from under the nostrils. The stitches are made in the exact pleat between the nose and the cheeks. This means that no visible trace of the operation will remain.

Anaesthetics during the rhinoplasty

A nose job is generally carried out under anaesthetic. When you recover from the anaesthetic, you will feel weak and tired. The reactions to the anaesthetic vary from person to person. Your nurse, the anaesthetist and plastic surgeon will support you up to the moment of your departure.

After the rhinoplasty

In many cases, a splint will be placed on the nose after the nose surgery. This has to remain for about 1 week. For several days, the area around the nose will be swollen and highly sensitive. The discomfort will soon disappear once the bandages, splint and stitches have been removed.

We recommend that you take 1 week's rest after nose surgery. After this period, you can carefully return to your daily activities. It is recommended that heavy exertion - both mental and physical - be avoided for several weeks to come. Most people go back to work within two weeks.

The result of a nose job can be properly determined after 1 year. The healing process takes time and depends on the structure and quality of bone, cartilage and skin tissue. The factor that influences the result most strongly is your own expectations. This is often too highly strained and that can influence the degree of satisfaction with the result.
